How NBC Regulations Protect Cambodian Bank Customers

Learn how the National Bank of Cambodia's regulations protect depositors, borrowers, and the stability of the banking system.

The Role of the National Bank of Cambodia

The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) is the central bank and the primary regulatory authority for all banks and financial institutions in the Kingdom of Cambodia. As a licensed specialized bank under License No. SB-19, Evergrowth Bank operates fully within NBC’s regulatory framework.

Key Protections for Customers

  • Licensing: All specialized banks must pass rigorous NBC screening before receiving a license
  • Capital Requirements: Banks are required to maintain minimum capital ratios to ensure solvency
  • Statutory Deposits: Banks must maintain 5% of capital as a statutory deposit with the NBC
  • Credit Classification: NBC Prakas B7-017-344 requires all banks to classify loans by credit quality
  • AML/CFT: Banks must maintain robust anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing controls
